Just like many other similar areas, this one had an enormous potential of self-regeneration and urban regeneration of the surrounding areas by contributing to correct the typical imbalances caused by the tumultuous post second world war urban growth.
The objective of the project was to “sew-up” this area of about 3 hectares to the rest of the surrounding part of the city and also to make it become the north end of a public green area system that crosses the city.
The various parts of the design activity which I developed with my colleague, Arch. Franco Bertazzini, dealt with several scales of interest. We started from scale 1:10,000 for the urban level considerations, down to 1:10 when we needed to restore an ancient mill of the XV century located in the middle of the area of intervention.
The several types of work we had to face, demolition and reconstruction, restoration, new construction, brought us to build 95 appartements, 17 shops, a kindergarten, a public square and a 12,000 sq. meters park.
