The “Casa nel bosco ” (house in the woods) is located in the west side of the Bisenzio River Valley, in a chestnut wood of the Monteferrato area facing the Calvana mountains.
The project of this unifamiliar house took origin from the observation of the nature of the area and was developed through a continuous dialogue between the natural elements of the site and the drawings on the paper. Its orientation, volumes, cantilevered elements, openings, materials and surface finish were thought according to the best possible use of the bioclimatic features of the site trying to achieve the best passive energy saving result. These formal features combined with advanced types of systems give this building the qualification of a “Nearly Zero Energy Building ”.
The luxuriant nature of the site and its light are in a continuous dialogue with the interior spaces and perspectives becoming an integral part of the house.
The main “emotional theme” is generated by the morning light and the wind that “paint” the moving shadow of trees and plants on the reinforced concrete wall. The painting varies according to the light, the days and the seasons. Each morning the surrounding nature grants a new and different spectacle.
